polica, pop rocks, and a pile of sweethearts
a bit less conventional might be the theme for this valentine's day.
my evening was spent listening to incredible music with people i love.
but working security isn't exactly romantic.
polica may be the latest trend but i can't help but adore them.
maybe because they break my heart.
yeah, i was hooked. and immediately haunted. by their sound.
but channy. oh, channy. it's her story that breaks my heart.
did someone say pop rocks??
yep. since first trying the firecracker chocolate bar i have been obsessed with combining cayenne, chocolate, and pop rocks. in a cupcake, of course.
firecracker cupcakes
chocolate cupcakes (i'll link this to my favorite)
amazing ganache
8 oz dark chocolate
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 pkg pop rocks
chop the chocolate into small pieces, place in a heat proof bowl and set aside.
heat cream and cayenne just until it comes to a boil. pour the cream over the chocolate. allow to sit for a few minutes. stir until smooth, set aside.
buttercream
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
4 c powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbs milk
in your electric mixer, combine butter and shortening. mix on low, slowly adding sugar. add milk to thin, and vanilla. increase speed and beat for three minutes.
assemble:
remove the centers from your cupcakes.
stir pop rocks into cooled ganache
fill each cake
top with buttercream
notes:
while i ate plenty of the ganache, i didn't actually try a cupcake. the ganache (with in an hour of making) was pop rockingly delicious. but the cake and frosting may have overwhelmed the insides.
i'm also worried that pop rocks disintegrated. so this isn't over. i'm determined to showcase this incredible combination of flavor and fun!
